WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU THE LIBRARY situated in the Superior Courthouse on Camelot Street, is operated by the Thunder Bay Law Association through an elected Board of Directors and its Library Committee, for the use of members of the Association, their students and staff, and visiting lawyers. The Library is funded with grants from the Law Society of Upper Canada, administered through LibraryCo. As one of the 48 County and District Libraries in Ontario the TBLA Library has access to all the collections of these libraries. We can borrow publications and/or have photocopies of materials sent to our members free of charge. The Library is located on the 3rd floor of the Superior Courthouse on Camelot Street. The Library is staffed from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The Library is staffed by Catherine Walsh, Library Technician and Judy Sennett, Library Assistant. COLLECTION The Library has an excellent collection of Canadian and British case reports and digests, Canadian and Ontario statutes, selected journals, CLE materials and government publications. See New Acquisitions for the latest additions to the Library. To search our catalogue, log into the LSUC web catalogue AdvoCat. The Library catalogue is maintained by the Great Library at the Law Society of Upper Canada and is accessible through this website. Once in the Great Library site you can search the catalogues of all County and District Law Libraries in Ontario as well as the Great Library or you can restrict your search to Thunder Bay only. Members of the Association may currently conduct their own searches on these databases at no charge, other than a printing charge. Internet access is available to members on the same basis. Library staff is available to help formulate the search. INTER-LIBRARY LOAN SERVICE The Library staff will obtain photocopies or borrow materials from other libraries by email, courier or fax. This service is normally without charges. REFERENCE-SERVICES Trained staff is available to assist you in using the resources of the Library or obtaining cases and other resource material. Staff can help you: - by assisting in locating and noting up cases and updating statutes
- by suggesting or searching for appropriate reference books, indexes and bibliographies
- by advising on problems of research method
- by pointing out additional or alternative source material
- by assisting in locating answers to specific questions
These services are free to members.
PHOTOCOPYING A card-operated photocopier is available in the Library. You may purchase a copy card (100 copies at $25 plus GST) or have a copy card reprogrammed (100 copies at $20 plus GST). A staffed photocopy service is also available, operating within the guidelines of the Copyright Act ($ .50 per exposure). Simply telephone with your request and arrange for pick-up or delivery of the copies. Transmission by fax can also be arranged. FAXING In addition to sending copies of library materials by fax, as mentioned above, the Library may also be used as a depot for sending or receiving fax transmissions. Charges for this service vary. Library hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
